My last post was about a kitchen makeover I wanted to do but didn't think I could because of my large tax bill. I got over being mad at the IRS when I found out I could make payments to them and thought, oh, maybe I will get to redo the kitchen after all.
However, now there has been a change in plans...it will be the junk room (aka 3rd bedroom) getting a remodel. Fortunately, we have about 8 months or so to complete this project!
Home is where my story begins...

I hate the government!!
I wanted my second blog entry to be about the kitchen update I wanted to do in the next few weeks.
My friend Lisa posted this picture on her wall earlier in the week.
I fell in lovewith this kitchen... and a vintage Pyrex bowl I found at my mom's (see below). Mom of course let me have the bowl. (Thanks, Mom!) So, I decided we would paint the kitchen in the next few weeks and I was going to find the other 3 bowls to match Mom's bowl for my newly painted kitchen...
However, Burton found out yesterday Brashear Ag is closing in March. They will have an auction on March 8th, then he will be unemployed after that. Fantastic! Oh, and no raises for health department employees again this year. I'm sure glad groceries aren't going up in price!!!
Then, to make it worse, I figured our tax return. Well, let's just say, making a little bit more last year really screwed us! We have to pay in a substantial amount - in addition to what was withheld from our paychecks (which I know isn't as much as some people, especially the self-employed, but I'm still pissed about it! Even more so since Burton will soon be unemployed!) I have never had to pay in before, we have always had enough taken out of our paychecks...not the case this year, they are going to charge us $30 for an underpayment penalty! WTH!
Sorry parents, no more grandchildren this year - not in the budget!
I will shut up for now (could be worse, it's just money) and sit here having a pity party for myself for a little while longer, then I will look for a weekend job - which will probably screw me next year on my taxes! It's a vicious cycle! Make more, pay in more...grrrrr!!!

My very first blog entry!!!
I am excited to start this new blog! I hope I do not put any of you to sleep! There is not going to be any real "subject" for my writting, just whatever comes to mind.
Today I am thankful I work for the government since it's MLK day and I have the day off. :) I had so many things I wanted to accomplish, including my first blog entry. I slept in today until 6:30 so I got a late start on my housework (which I did not get all done since I got side tracked trying to design the blog!). On a normal day I like to get up at 4:30 or 5:00 and do some cleaning before I get ready for work. The boys don't get up until about 6:45 so it gives me some quiet time in the mornings, too.
I have been on the hunt for some new stainless measuring cups. I really wanted to get the Ganz snowflake ones to match my measuring spoons, but cannot justify $40 plus shipping for them - for now! I went to my friend Amanda's the other night and visited with her and her mom for a while, and I spotted some stainless measuring cups! She said she got them at the Country Variety Amish store West of LaPlata. Amanda reminded me they would be open today and I would have the day off! So, Lucas and I went to the Amish store. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more, me or him! I found a set of stainless measuring cups for less than $4! I am amazed at the things that make me happy! We will be going to visit there more often.
We passed several Amish homes on our way to Kirksville. Most of them had laundry hanging out on the line. I explained to Lucas that Amish do not have electricity so they hang their clothes out to dry. He was quick to realize that meant they do not have televisions and video games. He said he felt sorry for the Amish children because they do not have as many toys and things as he does. I tried explaining that they do have toys to play with, just different kinds than he does. I still think he feels sorry for them, though!
I often find myself thinking I should live like the Amish. I could save $200-$300/month on electricity and I'm sure a horse wouldn't cost as much to feed as my car does! Plus, I would like to be at home most of the time, cooking, baking, cleaning, quilting, etc. If I had to make my own blankets/quilts and clothes, I am sure I would appreciate them more and not feel like I "need" new ones all the time! And I am certain we would not have dressers and closets spewing clothes out of them if I were washing them all by hand and hanging them out to dry! But for now, I will live the "luxurious" life with electricity so I can blog and have Facebook... and a washer and dryer!
